Tips for Entry-level Job Seekers

Below are tips that can help you find suitable employment opportunities which can help jumpstart your career:
  1. Ask for help. Fresh graduates are encouraged to take advantage of available resources that can help them find entry-level positions in their target companies. For example, they can visit the career service office or the alumni office of their respective universities to find the latest job postings. They can also use online resources that provide job listings as well as pointers on how they can pursue  lucrative careers in their chosen fields.
  1. Send out your resume. College grads may also decide to send out their resumes and application letters to their target companies, even though these organizations may not have vacancies. After all, it has been a common practice among human resource specialists to keep job applications in their files. This way, they can have a manpower pool to tap on just in case a critical position becomes vacant.
  1. Apply as an intern or as an on-the-job-trainee. If you feel that you are not yet ready to take on the responsibilities of a real job, then consider applying as an intern or as an on-the-job-trainee. In so doing, you can gain a deeper understanding of the working environment in your chosen field. At the same time, you can learn the basic skills and competencies that will help you excel in the career you intend to pursue.
  1. Be very flexible. Always remember that a college degree can open doors to extensive career opportunities. So, never limit yourself to the usual career paths taken by professionals in your field of specialization. Who knows, by not going with the bandwagon and by pursuing a field that you are really interested in, you might be able to reach your career and financial goals in the soonest possible time.
  1. Use your social network. College friends, acquaintances and even your professors can serve as your link to the corporate world. So, make it a point to stay in touch with as many of your college friends and instructors as you can. After all, these individuals can give you leads to good-paying jobs as well as to relevant employment opportunities.
